Proper bathroom cleaning – how is it done?
A clean bathroom can become a true oasis of well-being, but only if it is cleaned thoroughly regularly.
Especially in sensitive areas such as sinks, showers, and bathtubs, germs or mold quickly form besides everyday dirt, because of moisture.
Another weak point in many bathrooms is the toilet. Besides many pathogens, stubborn urine scales and limescale deposits quickly develop here.
It doesn’t have to be! Today’s article is all about professional bathroom cleaning, including valuable tips and tricks on the right bathroom cleaner or important utensils that should not be missing when cleaning the bathroom.
Tip 1: Get the right utensils for cleaning the bathroom!
You can surely imagine nicer tasks than cleaning your bathroom. So do we, but with the right tools, the job is easier and your bathroom really gets clean.
Besides cleaning rags and a soft sponge, you can use a mild bathroom cleaner such as vinegar-based cleaner that does not pollute the environment. It is ideal if you use colored cleaning rags, for example, you can use a separate color for the toilets.
All important utensils for bathroom cleaning at a glance:
- Bucket

Tip 2: Keep to the sensible order when cleaning the bathroom!
It is best to put on your favorite music first, then cleaning your bathroom will not be so monotonous.
Did you know? Professional bathroom cleaning is successful if we followed a certain cleaning sequence. We recommend you take the following steps to get your bathroom sparkling clean quickly:
- Provide fresh air: open the window or switch on the ventilation in a bathroom without a window. This way, there is no accumulation of humidity caused by cleaning.
- Tidying up: Before you clean, clear all storage areas and put away or stow away cosmetics, old laundry, bathroom scales, etc., so that you can clean unhindered.
You can also have a quick look at the bathroom cabinets to see if you can tidy them up in a few simple steps. This step is certainly unnecessary for every bathroom cleaning, but it can be useful from time to time.
- Put old towels & bath mats in the washing machine: In this step, put all the old towels, washcloths, etc. in the washing machine and start a wash cycle.
- Dispose of rubbish and remove coarse dust: Empty your rubbish bin in the bathroom and take this opportunity to throw away empty plastic bottles of shampoo and co. You can then use a feather duster or Swiffer to roughly remove dust from cupboards, lamps, and shelves.
- Get cleaning supplies: Have all bathroom cleaning supplies ready so you have direct access to them when needed. Use the list from our tip 1 for this, in which you will find all the important tools at a glance.
- Clean the toilet: When cleaning, start with the toilet and use a suitable toilet cleaner. If you don’t have one at hand, you can alternatively use detergent.
Don’t forget to clean under the edge as well, because this is where the most stubborn dirt is found. Leave the toilet cleaner on for around 15 minutes to remove the urine scale and limescale. In the meantime, you can already wipe down all parts such as the toilet seat, cistern, etc. Use a vinegar-based cleaner and a damp cloth.
Then clean the inner toilet bowl again thoroughly with the toilet brush and remove the remaining cleaning agent from the toilet with a flush.
- Cleaning the sinks: Here you can get rid of dried toothpaste residue etc. with a vinegar cleaner, sponge, toothbrush, and a microfiber cloth to dry. Please don’t forget the drains at the beginning: Here a so-called drain snake made of plastic or something similar can help to free the drain of hair quickly and without chemicals.
- Clean the bathtub, shower, and bidet: With the right bathroom cleaner or vinegar-based cleaner, the bathtub, shower, and bidet can be cleaned quickly and easily.
Clean the shower without leaving streaks: After cleaning with vinegar-based cleaner and rinsing with clear water, dry the shower walls with a shower squeegee. Then polish the fittings with a dry microfiber cloth so that no water stains remain.
- Clean the mirror: Depending on how dirty it is, either wipe with a damp cloth and then spray with a glass cleaner, or use the cleaner immediately and dry with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Clean the floor: The floor comes last. It is best to first remove the coarse dirt with a vacuum cleaner and then wipe thoroughly with a floor scrubber and damp floor cloth or a wiping mobber.
Tip 3: Easily remove stubborn dirt
We can remove dirty joints and black spots with home remedies such as baking powder or baking soda. Simply apply to the affected areas and let it work for about 10 minutes with a little water and then rinse with clear water. With a toothbrush, you can even get into hidden corners of your bathroom.
You can counteract black stripes or stubborn dirt, for example, on doors, windows, and ventilation, with a dirt eraser. Please test this first on an inconvenient spot to avoid permanent damage to a surface.
Are your wall and floor tiles stained and dark? Then a special joint brush can be used, with which you can also get larger joint surfaces clean again in no time at all. You can also get suitable joint cleaners and an agent for sealing the clean joint in stores. In this way, you can keep the purity for a long time, also in the joints between the tiles.
